lion bruce jessop
Lion Bruce Jessop died suddenly on Monday morning, July 8th.
Lion Bruce has been a member of Schomberg Lions since 1999 and throughout that time he has been one of the hardest workers and was always very supportive of all decision making by the club executive.
He was President himself in 2001/2002.
His generous and non-controversial attitude kept us going, in good times and bad!
He will be missed.
Our prayers, and hearts go out to Linda and all the family.

BOB AND SUSANNE DISPLAY THE SCHOMBERG BANNERS
Several members of the Schomberg Lions attended the 2013 Convention, which this year was held at the Best Western in Midland.
It was an enjoyable event with entertainment on the Friday evening by some talented performers from a couple of the local high schools.
Saturday evening was dancing to the Martels, a 50's / 60's Rock & Roll Show Band.
There was of course Lions business to be dealt with, and the Hospitality suites were a popular attraction for meeting and greeting fellow Lions.

Lion's Play Park on Main Street Schomberg
This is the new sign at the Lion's Playpark on Main Street Schomberg.
The Park was developed by the Lions in the 1990s and opened to the public complete with swings and slides etc.
In the 2000's, because of the high cost of liability insurance the Club donated the Park to the Township.
Trevor Graham & Edward Maynard were both Charter members when the club was formed in 1947, and both were alive at the 60th Anniversary celebration.
Unfortunately Edward died earlier this year.
We thank the township for their cooperation in this project

Build a Bird FeederOnce again the Lions will be helping out with the Bird Feeder Building workshop for kids in the Dufferin Marsh
Kids can make a bird feeder for free this Saturday (September 15) starting at 10 am. Come to the shelter on the north side of Dr. Kay Drive in Schomberg. You just need to listen for the hammering to know you are there. The number of kits are limited so come early and avoid disappointment. We would like to thank the Schomberg Lions Club for making the beautiful kits for us. Don’t forget to visit the Schomberg Street Gallery on both Saturday and Sunday up and down Main Street. |

Schomberg Lions Report - August 2011
As many of you know, the Schomberg Lions closed out the 2010/11 season with a very successful Country Hoe-Down at the old arena. Many thanks to all those supported this event through their generous contributions of time or money, and of course thank you to those who attended to make it the success it was. That was quite the busy weekend for us seeing as we also participated in the Tottenham Bluegrass Festival, providing food and drink for all those who came out to hear that interesting music.
In July, Bob Gwalchmai took over from Bill Koppens as President and quickly got in to the swing of things. With everyone knowing just how good our burgers and fries are, the Lions’ kitchen-on-wheels didn’t get much of a rest. In mid-August we were over at the National Water Ski and Wake Board competition, providing food for the hundreds who came out to watch that very action-packed competition. The following weekend we also took part in the Bradford Carrotfest which was attended by thousands of people.
Mark your calendars for upcoming events where you will find Schomberg Lions which include the Schomberg Village Street Gallery, September 17th and 18th, where we will have our BBQ outside the Community Hall on Main Street to cook lunch on both days, and then at the Community Bonfire, organized by the Schomberg Agricultural Society, in the evening of Saturday, September 17th, where we will set up near the fire and serve our famous “bacon on a bun” and corn-on-the-cob.
Something new is coming Friday, October 21st, when we will have our first Chilli Supper at the Community Hall on Main Street. We plan on having two sittings to get in everyone that wants to give this new idea a try. More information will follow in the weeks to come.
You all know your Lions try to get out there as much as we can, to fundraise by providing food, a little entertainment, and some fun in this wonderful community here in Schomberg. Last season we raised over $20,000 that will be used to support many community projects and local groups.
If you are interested in joining the Schomberg Lions, please give Bob Gwalchmai a call at 905 939 4024 for further information.
Watch this space for future announcements.
